Meantime,RoughingIthadappearedandwassellingabundantly。MarkTwain,freeofdebt,andinpleasantcircumstances,feltthattheoutlookwasbright。Itbecameevenmoresowhen,inMarch,thesecondchild,alittlegirl,Susy,wasborn,withnoattendingmisfortunes。But,then,intheearlysummerlittleLangdondied。

Hewastreatedsowellandenjoyeditallsomuchthathecouldnotwriteabook——thekindofbookhehadplanned。Onecouldnotpokefunatacountryorapeoplethathadwelcomedhimwithopenarms。

Hemadeplentyofnotes,atfirst,butpresentlygaveupthebookideaanddevotedhimselfaltogethertohavingagoodtime。
