Hewalkedroundmystatueandhadthedesignexplainedtohim。IhadrepresentedMuskegonasayoung,almostastripling,mother,withsomethingofanIndiantype;thebabeuponherkneeswaswinged,toindicateoursoaringfuture;andherseatwasamedleyofsculpturedfragments,Greek,Roman,andGothic,toremindusoftheolderworldsfromwhichwetraceourgeneration。

“Now,doesthissatisfyyou,Mr。Dodd?”heinquired,assoonasIhadexplainedtohimthemainfeaturesofthedesign。

“Well。”Isaid,“thefellowsseemtothinkit’snotabadbonnefemmeforabeginner。Idon’tthinkit’sentirelybadmyself。

Nearlythreemonthsaftertime,andwhenmyeconomieswerebeginningtorunlow,Ireceivedatlastaletterwiththecustomarybillsofexchange。
