This,asIhavementioned,wasSaturdaynight。BeingSaturdaynight,Ihadaccomplishedbutthehalfofmyuncommercialjourney;

Therefore,atthesamehourofhalf-pastsixonthesimilarlydampandmuddySundayevening,IreturnedtothisTheatre。Idroveuptotheentrance(fearfulofbeinglate,orIshouldhavecomeonfoot),andfoundmyselfinalargecrowdofpeoplewho,Iamhappytostate,wereputintoexcellentspiritsbymyarrival。Havingnothingtolookatbutthemudandthecloseddoors,theylookedatme,andhighlyenjoyedthecomicspectacle。Mymodestyinducingmetodrawoff,somehundredsofyards,intoadarkcorner,theyatonceforgotme,andappliedthemselvestotheirformeroccupationoflookingatthemudandlookinginatthecloseddoors:which,beingofgratedironwork,allowedthelightedpassagewithintobeseen。Theywerechieflypeopleofrespectableappearance,oddandimpulsiveasmostcrowdsare,andmakingajokeofbeingthereasmostcrowdsdo。
