’MR。COPPERNOSEcalledtheattentionofthesectiontoa,propositionofgreatmagnitudeandinterest,illustratedbyavast,numberofmodels,andstatedwithmuchclearnessandperspicuityin,atreatiseentitled“PracticalSuggestionsonthenecessityof,providingsomeharmlessandwholesomerelaxationfortheyoung,noblemenofEngland。”,Hispropositionwas,thataspaceofground,ofnotlessthantenmilesinlengthandfourinbreadthshouldbe,purchasedbyanewcompany,tobeincorporatedbyActof,Parliament,andinclosedbyabrickwallofnotlessthantwelve,feetinheight。Heproposedthatitshouldbelaidoutwith,highwayroads,turnpikes,bridges,miniaturevillages,andevery,objectthatcouldconducetothecomfortandgloryofFour-in-hand,Clubs,sothattheymightbefairlypresumedtorequirenodrive,beyondit。Thisdelightfulretreatwouldbefittedupwithmost,commodiousandextensivestables,fortheconvenienceofsuchof,thenobilityandgentryashadatasteforostlering,andwith,housesofentertainmentfurnishedinthemostexpensiveand,handsomestyle。Itwouldbefurtherprovidedwithwholestreetsof,door-knockersandbell-handlesofextrasize,soconstructedthat,theycouldbeeasilywrenchedoffatnight,andregularlyscrewed,onagain,byattendantsprovidedforthepurpose,everyday。There,wouldalsobegaslampsofrealglass,whichcouldbebrokenata,comparativelysmallexpenseperdozen,andabroadandhandsome,footpavementforgentlementodrivetheircabrioletsuponwhen,theywerehumorouslydisposed-forthefullenjoymentofwhich,featlivepedestrianswouldbeprocuredfromtheworkhouseata,verysmallchargeperhead。Theplacebeinginclosed,and,carefullyscreenedfromtheintrusionofthepublic,therewouldbe,noobjectiontogentlemenlayingasideanyarticleoftheircostume,thatwasconsideredtointerferewithapleasantfrolic,or,indeed,totheirwalkingaboutwithoutanycostumeatall,ifthey,likedthatbetter。Inshort,everyfacilityofenjoymentwouldbe,affordedthatthemostgentlemanlypersoncouldpossiblydesire。
